Buff, Firm and Moisturize or Erase the Crepe…a proactive at-home body rejuvenating routine.

For the past several years, when Spring and Summer seasons start getting closer, I’d begin thinking if I will still feel confident enough to wear shorts, mini skirts and dresses with my continuously aging but strong, healthy body. Many of my friends and clients have already made the decision to stop wearing blouses or dresses that are sleeveless due to their flabby, crepey upper arms. Others won’t wear anything but long pants or capris out in public due to embarrassment and the shame of how their legs look. Some will no longer wear low cut blouses or tank tops. In our youth, we can’t imagine how real this phase of our chronological aging might be…but, it is.

Being 62 is wonderful and challenging when it comes to preserving, rejuvenating and keeping things looking and feeling fresh. I was shocked the first season that I noticed significant changes and signs of aging in my legs and arms!  It happens without any real warning and all of a sudden they’re not like they used to be. I refused to accept it and committed to wearing the clothes and styles that I still love and feel comfortable in. Right then I made the decision to start being mindful of the skin on my body, not just focusing on my face, neck and hair.

Yes, it’s a little more work and effort in the self-care department, but well worth it every new spring and summer seasons. I’m going to share the daily, weekly and seasonal body care rituals and regimen I have created to achieve the best naturally rejuvenating ongoing results.

In the shower, it’s important to use good quality natural cleansing body washes. I prefer water soluble aromatherapy infused gels. With a cleansing puff, I use a floral or citrus uplifting body wash in the daytime and a calming, relaxing one at nighttime on a daily basis. This not only helps cleanse my body but sets the tone for whatever is next on the schedule. I alternate and use a body brush or loofah a couple times a week in place of the puff, as well as a body scrub on the days I wash my hair before I shave my legs. Before exiting the shower, I apply an In-Shower Body Oil. This starts the hydrating process.

After drying myself, I apply 6 pumps of Dermalogica’s Body Sculpting Serum, after emulsifying it in my hands, I apply it to my legs, starting below the knees and working in a circular upward motion to the entire thigh area. It’s a firming, toning and sculpting serum that penetrates quickly but is not moisturizing. I apply 2 pumps to my upper arms and any residual to my forearms. Last, I apply 2 more pumps to my décolleté, chest/breast and neck areas.

Once I exit the bathroom, I proceed to apply a rich and hydrating body moisturizer. If I plan on being in the sun or outdoors, I ALWAYS apply at least an SPF 30 to my arms, décolleté and legs. I’m using Hampton Sun Silk Body Oil SPF 30 spray. It’s super easy and quick to apply and leaves my skin glowing with a silky soft finish. These daily routines and practices help to keep the skin in its optimal condition. Consistent body exfoliating prevents the buildup of dry dull flaky dead cell build up.

I hope you find these recommendations as helpful and beneficial as I have. Here’s to feeling as confident and beautiful as possible in your perfectly beautiful maturing skin. If you would like special Beauty Coaching in regards to creating a custom tailored body regimen, reach out and I will be happy to be of service.
